Lunch at Q. Cumbers in Edina

Join Lakes Area Unlimited Learning Group and Gary Block Tours on Wednesday January 28^th , when we depart Brainerd at 7:15 a.m. from Franklin Art Center. Our comfortable North Star motor coach will also pick up in Little Falls around 8:00 and any other city along the way. We’re headed first to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts where they inspire wonder through the power of art. The MIA enriches the community by collecting, preserving and making accessible, outstanding works of art from the world’s diverse cultures. Some of the new exhibits in January include: The Art of Chinese Fan Painting, Intimate Details of the Natural World & Crowning the North: Silver Treasures of Bergen, Norway and more! We’ll spend some time at MIA and then travel to Edina for a buffet lunch at Q. Cumbers with their celebrated fifty-foot salad bar that has everything you need, plus hot entrees, four different soups made from scratch, a fresh bakery, fruits and desserts. Following a delicious lunch, we travel to the Weisman Art Museum. The Weisman is the most unique building in the Twin Cities or in the entire state. This is a beautiful abstract structure like you’ve never seen as is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The building presents two faces, depending on which side it is viewed from. To the south and east, it presents a brick façade that blends in with the historic buildings. To the north and west, it is an abstraction of a fish and waterfall in curving and angular brushed steel sheets. The construction of the 8,100 square foot expansion was completed in 2011 and has nearly doubled the size of the galleries for collections and enhanced its role as a cultural resource for the state’s many visitors. Several exhibitions are now on view including Milk/Wine an investigation how art, regardless of how well its preserved, continues to age. Also, on exhibit is “More Various, More Beautiful and More Terrible. This exhibition showcases works from the Weisman collection by American artists that demonstrate, confound and probe aspects of the American experience. What a great day and returning to Brainerd around 6:30 pm.
